Magnificent manuscripts from the collection of the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin and the Museum für Islamische Kunst bear witness to the diversity of Christian traditions in the Middle East – from late Antiquity to the 19th century.
As well as splendid Armenian illuminated gospels they include, for example, Syrian parchment bibles, Coptic papyri and other Christian artefacts in many other languages of the region. Examples of the influence of biblical themes within the Islamic tradition are also on display. Indian miniatures with Christian motifs from the Vollmer Collection round off the exhibition.
